Newark’s 4TH Annual LGBTQ Pride Flag-Raising Ceremony

Mayor Cory A. Booker, members of the Municipal Council, the City of Newark’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and Questioning Advisory Commission; members of the Newark-Essex Pride Coalition, and other dignitaries will hold a the City of Newark’s 4THAnnual LGBTQ Pride Flag-Raising Ceremony, today, Monday, June 7, 2010, on the Steps of City Hall, at 5 p.m. This year’s Newark-Essex Gay Pride Week is themed: “Rising Higher.”

The flag raising ceremony kicks off the 6th Annual Newark-Essex Pride celebration, which includes events such as the Pride Jam Festival in Washington Park, a film screening with famed filmmaker Daniel Karslake, a pride parade in downtown Newark, and the daylong Safe Spaces Conference.

The rainbow flag, a universal symbol of gay pride, will fly outside City Hall for the duration of the sixth annual Newark-Essex Pride Week.The Booker administration has made a firm commitment to supporting the needs and equality of the LGBTQ community and formed the City of Newark’s first-ever LGBTQ Advisory Commission last year.
